AQUATIC EDUCATION & TRAINING

 

At North Shore Aquatics we deliver courses to potential swim instructors and coaches in Sydney. We offer two different Swim Australia courses:

1. Swim Australia Teacher for candidates that wish to be Learn to Swim Teachers, who will work in the water with small groups, usually four students or less
2. Swim Australia Teacher of Competitive Swimming which is designed for candidates wishing to become on deck coaches, working with small development squads

These are the entry level certificates in the aquatic industry. Attainment of either accreditation will give successful candidates the competencies required to work in any swim school in Australia, and many swim schools overseas.

 

Swim Australia is wholly owned by ASCTA (The Australian Swimming Coaches & Teacher Association) and is the Swim School and Learn To Swim and Water Safety division of ASCTA.

 

BENEFITS OF COMPLETING OUR SWIM AUSTRALIA COURSES:

• Our courses are approved by the Federal Government
• The courses are endorsed by Swimming Australia Limited – the peak body for the sport of swimming in Australia
• Our courses are aligned with ASCTA (Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association) coaching accreditations, resulting in enhanced development pathways for Teachers
• The course fees include complimentary ASCTA Base Membership until 30 June the following year.
• The competenies acquired in the Swim Australia Teacher Course enables successful students to conduct water related personal safety and survival lessons. These competencies meet the Australian Tax Office's requirements for GST free personal aquatic survival skills, under Amendment 3 of the GST Regulations 1999 Act.
• Successful candidates are comprehensively covered by insurance (through ASCTA) until any of the following occur:
  • it is 12 months since your practical induction and you have not been assessed as competent
  • you receive payment as a Trainee
  • 28 days after the date of a satisfactory competency assessment
You will then have the option of industry insurance via ASCTA insurance brokers - Marsh.

• Arrangements can be made to complete your practical training hours through any swim school

 

Students who successfully complete the relevant requirements of the Swim Australia Teacher Course are issued with a statement of attainment with one or more of the following competencies from the Community Recreation Industry Training Package:

 

• SISCAQU202A- Perform Basic Water Rescues
• SISCAQU308A - Instruct Water Familiarisation
• SISCAQU309A - Instruct Clients in Water Safety & Survival Skills
• SISCAQU310A - Instruct Swimming Strokes
• SISCAQU302A - Apply Legal & Ethical Instructional Skills

These competencies can be used as partial completion of the Certificate III in Community Recreation.

Students who successfully complete the relevant requirements of the Swim Australia Teacher of Competitive Swimming Course are issued with a statement of attainment with one or more of the following competencies from the community recreation industry training package:

 

• SISSSWM301A - Teach the competitive strokes of swimming
• SISSCGP201A - Apply legal and ethical coaching practices

These competencies can be used as partial completion of the Certificate III in Community Recreation.
